A Merchant Account is simply a relationship between a retailer, a merchant bank and payment processor for the settlement of credit card transactions. Any retailer who wants to take credit card orders must establish a merchant account. To qualify for a merchant account, retailers must meet the bank's requirements. Internet merchants usually pay higher fees than "brick and mortar" retailers because they require a "Card Not Present Merchant Account". To be approved for an Internet merchant account, be prepared to provide the following: A business checking account A voided check Articles of incorporation or other business certificate Web site URL Trade references Statement of your return policy

All banks and payment processors require fees from you for accepting credit cards. Typically, these fees are broken down into 3 categories: a discount rate, transaction fees, and monthly fees. Our discount rate can run 1.7% - 4% of revenues based on the risk incurred by your business. Our transaction fees are .25 cent per order and is charged by the processor.

  • How A Transaction Is Processed Through the Virtual Terminal

  • A Customer phones, faxes, or mails in order, information to the Merchant using a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover credit card -- or an electronic check (eCheck).
  • The Merchant manually enters the Customer's payment information into the Virtual Terminal feature of the Authorize.net Merchant Interface. The Merchant may also upload a file with payment information via the Merchant Interface's Upload Transaction File feature. (The Upload Transaction File feature of the Virtual Terminal allows you to upload a file containing multiple transactions to the Payment Gateway, providing a quick solution for recurring and high-volume transaction processing.)
  • Whether via the Virtual Terminal or Upload File feature, the Customer's payment information is transmitted securely to the Authorize.net Payment Gateway and SecureSource Risk Assessor for fraud screening and authorization.
  • The authorization (or decline) response is returned via the Authorize.net Merchant Interface to the Merchant.
